Get up with the “DIGITAL AGE”
The term “New Digital Media” is used to refer to various modern ways of spreading information between people. Unlike the traditional means and methods whereby information exchanges take considerable length of time to be conveyed from one point to the other, the new digital media “digital technology age” provides various methods to achieve same aim in the shortest possible time.
Nowadays, journalists relies so much on the use of digital new media to carry out their works. thee traditional method was to research a particular information through investigation of various sources and connections to sieve out the most reliable, authentic, confidentially defensible and dependable information. Some popular media houses have many journalists who have suddenly become so lazy and careless that rather than having to do their work prudently and diligently, they prefer to take the lazy route to source their information and news from the social media platforms. Many people have suddenly come to realize the power of social media and its potential to reach people in the most remote corner of the earth, therefore, it has become so easy to source information without having to spend any money at all or time to travel to the information source or even bother about verification and correctness.
This unethical dependence on and use social of social media as the main source of information, however noble the intention might be, cannot be and should be discouraged at all levels of information sharing. We have witnessed an unprecedented amount of false leads used for propaganda in order to create and justify unnecessary wars, which have lead to loss of many innocent lives and then turn out to be false. So who should be blamed for the use of such false information?, i’m sure the answer is clear to the reader tat without doubt, such journalist should be held responsible and punished.
Some media houses and their journalists are in fact part and part of such media conspiracies and intentionally either sourced their information from such unverified sources or simply buys photos from unknown sources to use in their stories and narratives. But because they are backed by their media house and given free hand, such journalists do not show any remorse when they are cut doing such unethical journalism. Although, as Muslims, we believe that every action of the son of Adam(as) is recorded for him and will get his reward from Allah(swt) on the day of judgement in due measure.
As a Muslim Journalists are and should be more prudent and sincere in their research and information collation, because Muslims are guided by good standard of moral and sincerity. Allah says “..You are the best of people, because you enjoin the right and forbid the evil and you fear Allah”. This sentence is found in the book of Allah and is not man made at all. In comparison to others Muslims are expected to display the highest standard of morality, consciousness and truthfulness in all aspects of life. Therefore Muslim journalist is expected to source information through pure and direct research and verification of its correctness and authenticity is of paramount importance. We have seen western leaders fabricating lies and deceptions to justify their intention to wage war against other nations, after which it was revealed that the so-called “Intelligence gathering” on the basis of which they waged war was said to be false, the consequence of which millions of innocent lives were wasted in vein.
