The perpetrators of a massacre at two mosques in New Zealand were white supremacists who had symbols painted in white color on weapons used during the deadly assault that killed 49 people and triggered heightened security at mosques around the world.

An attack in Christchurch, rated as the worst mass shooting in the nation’s history, shattered the feeling that New Zealand was one of the few countries immune global terrorism.

New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, described the attack as one of its “darkest days”, prompted prayers and vigils around the world, with anger and revolt that live footage of the atrocity was circulated on social media by those who are not ashamed and have absolutely no feeling or sympathy for the murdered innocent worshipers and their families.

Christchurch was put on lockdown as the country’s security threat level was raised from low to high. Mosques across New Zealand and in other countries were advised to be vigilant at all times.

Forty-nine people were murdered in the dastardly act, while at least 48 have been reported injured in attacks targeted at innocent Muslims worshippers at two mosques which were carried out during Friday prayers in Christchurch.

A man in his late 20s was arrested and charged with murder after he was disarmed by a courageous Muslim man. He has been arranged by the police and will appear in court on Saturday morning. Two other armed suspects were being held in custody. Police said they were trying to determine how they might be have been involved.

The 28-year-old terrorist said he chose to use a gun over other weapons because it would spark a debate around the second amendment.

“With enough pressure the left wing within the United States will seek to abolish the second amendment, and the right wing within the US will see this as an attack on their very freedom and liberty,” Tarrant said.

“This attempted abolishment of rights by the left will result in a dramatic polarization of the people in the United States and eventually a fracturing of the US along cultural and racial lines.

“Eventually, when the white population of the USA realizes the truth of the situation, war will erupt,” he added.

‘Far-right terrorism on rise in US because of Trump’

In a Friday tweet, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif cited Trump’s Islamophobic remarks, and lashed out at the “Western hypocrisy of defending demonization of Muslims as ‘freedom of expression’.”

“Impunity in Western ‘democracies’ to promote bigotry leads to this: Israeli thugs enter mosque in Palestine to insult Muslims; terrorists in NZ livestream their murder of 49 Muslims. Western hypocrisy of defending demonization of Muslims as ‘freedom of expression’ MUST end,” he said.

Police have not released names of any of the suspects, but a man identifying himself as Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old born in Australia, broadcast live stream footage on Facebook showing him driving to a mosque, entering and shooting randomly at people inside.

In the UK and the US, police stepped up patrols in areas with large Muslim populations and around places of worship in direct response to the attack.

Responding to the attack on Friday, the UN secretary-general, António Guterres, warned there was an urgent need to tackle Islamophobia across the world.

Our hearts goes to the families of our brothers who were brutally murdered by this terrorists, we ask Allah (swt) to grant the deceased peace in Al-Jannatul Firdaus (Aamin) and grant their families strenght to bear the loss.
